16 MAY 2015

I can’t wait to try the dishes the chefs from Mussel Bar, Bayou Bakery, Tazza Kitchen, Lyon Hall, Petworth Citizen, Crane & Turtle, Pinstripes and Hank’s Oyster Bar come up with for the Arlington Arts Center‘s spring gala. The chefs will be cooking off based on inspiration from the center’s resident artists, and I’m lucky enough to have been asked to judge! You can come taste and weigh in, too.

6:45 PM to 9:30 PM

Cooking demonstration and tasting dinner at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, DC.

Join me to celebrate the 25th “Silver” Anniversary of the Mexican Cultural Institute with a menu in homage to Mexico’s Silver Route. In the colonial era, this route connected Mexico City to Zacatecas, the premier mining area, passing through Queretaro, Guanajuato, Aguascalientes and San Luis Potosí. The menu will take its inspiration from that era and route, so you will be able to sample both the flavors and the history.

29 MARCH 2015
1:30 PM to 3:00 PM

I’ll be co-hosting a talk on cooking on television with The Chew’s Carla Hall at this year’s International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP) Annual Conference, which will be held in Washington, DC.

So you really want to be on TV?
Many people in the food industry have at least had a day-dream about what it would be like to star in a television show, and many of us do more than day dream. But to develop, pitch, fund, and then perform on television is more hard work than most people realize. Hear from a panel of telegenic cooks at various stages of broadcast success to learn what it really takes to get – and stay – on TV.

Speakers: Carla Hall, co-host of ABC’s series “The Chew;” Pati Jinich, cooking teacher, food writer, chef of Mexican Cultural Institute, and host of public TV series Pati’s Mexican Table
