Created and hosted by chef Alice Waters, chef José Andrés, and New York Times food writer Joan Nathan, Sips & Suppers is a series of intimate dinners happening in private homes all on the same night in Washington DC. Local and guest chefs are paired together to create a (hopefully!) memorable meal to helps raise money to benefit D.C. Central Kitchen and Martha’s Table. I will be planning and executing an exciting Mexican menu alongside chef Julian Medina, owner of Toloache restaurant in New York City. Join us!!

Mexican Fiestas: Pozole, Ponches & Piñatas

Cooking demonstration and tasting dinner at the Mexican Cultural Institute.

In December, festivities in Mexico usually include Piñatas, Pozole and Ponche. You will learn the history behind the piñata tradition while savoring two of the most popular versions of Pozole throughout Mexico: Green from Guerrero and Red from Jalisco. A whole meal on a plate, Pozole is one of Mexico’s most well-known and loved dishes. Accompanying dessert will be a mug of sweet Ponche, a warm and delicious concoction made with sugar cane sticks and both fresh and dried fruits.

Martha's Table School Pantry Program

I am so glad to participate a second year in a row to do a cooking demo for the Martha’s Table School Pantry Program. Me and my boys really enjoyed meeting students and parents at Ambidon-Bowen Elementary last December through this program! This year, I will be demonstrating my apple, leek and sweet potato soup at Thomas Stone Elementary School. The Martha’s Table School Pantry is a fabulous program here in Washington, DC, that sets up “mobile” grocery stores at elementary schools to invite parents to pick out nutritious food items for their families. In addition to “shopping” for healthy foods, families can participate in cooking demonstrations that teach them to make wholesome meals with the ingredients available at the “mobile” grocery store.
